My First Attempts at Indoor Gardening/Mis primeros intentos de la jardinería dentro de la casa

Yo no soy mucho de jardinería, pero sí creo que las flores y las plantas son bonitas. Hace unos meses, una amiga me regaló un "spider plant" que he estado manteniendo en un vasito de plástico hasta poder comprar un tiesto. ¡Y este martes, mi gerente del trabajo me regaló una planta de bambú! Son unas plantas perfectas para mí--que no requieren mucha atención, son difíciles de matar, y que echan muchas plantas bebés que se pueden compartir con otras personas. :-) Además, creo que el bambú (en lo que crezca) va a ser un adorno perfecto para mi baño, el cuál estoy decorando con un tema africano.

I am not a plant person, but I do think that flowers and plants are pretty. Some months ago, a friend gave me a spider plant, which I have been keeping in a plastic cup until I bought a pot, and this Tuesday, my manager gave me a bamboo plant! They are perfect plants for me--plants that require very little attention, that are hard to kill, and that grow lots of little baby plants that can be shared with other people. :-) Also, I think that the bamboo (as it grows) will be a perfect addition for my bathroom, which I am decorating with an African safari theme.

1. No limpiar antes de hacer jardinería dentro de la casa.
2. No hacer tantos rotitos en el fondo del tiesto, o se escapa todo el agua.

I have learned some lessons from my first attempts at gardening.
1. Don't clean before doing gardening in the house.
2. Don't make so many little holes in the bottom of the pot, or all the water will escape.

A Day Off/Un día libre

Este miércoles tuve una bendición especial--un día libre del trabajo y una oportunidad de acompañar a mi hermana G a su cita médica de 30 semanas de embarazo. :-) La cita fue muy rápida, pero me emocionó mucho poder escuchar el látido de corazón de mi sobrinito(a). Después de la cita, nosotras fuimos de compras y almorzamos en Panera. Gracias, Señor, por ese día tan lindo con mi hermana.

This Wednesday I had a special blessing--a day off work and an opportunity to accompany my sister G to her 30-week prenatal appointment. :-) The appointment was very quick, but it was so exciting to listen to my little niece or nephew's heartbeat. After the appointment, we went shopping and had lunch at Panera. Thank you, Lord, for this beautiful day with my sister.

Hoy pasé la mayoría de la tarde acomodando mis cosas en este "nuevo" cuarto. :-) El apartamento tiene dos cuartos y yo estaba durmiendo en el otro, pero hacía tiempo que yo quería cambiar a éste. Estoy emocionada que pude encontrar un buen sitio para mi "saddle blanket" (la alfombra) y también porque ya tengo una esquina de música especial para tocar la flauta. Gracias, Señor, por las bendiciones que das y por el privilegio de poder alquilar este apartamento en las arribas de la casa de mis papás.

Today I spent the majority of the afternoon setting up my things in this "new" room. :-) The apartment has two rooms, and I was sleeping in the other one, but, for a long time, I had wanted to switch to this one. I'm excited that I found a good spot for my saddle blanket (the small rug) and also because I now have a special music corner to play my recorder (which I like to call my "wooden flute"). Thank you, Lord, for the blessings you give and for the privilege to rent this apartment above my parents' home.

Christmas 2010/La Navidad 2010

La Navidad empezó este año el 24 de diciembre cuando mi hermano T llegó en avión para pasar algunos días con nosotros. Nos alegró mucho verlo y saber cómo le va en su trabajo y su nuevo apartamento.

Christmas started this year on Dec. 24 when my brother T arrived on an airplane to spend a few days with us. We were so happy to see him and to find out how it's going for him with his job and his new apartment.

El día de Navidad abrimos regalos en casa de mis papás y en mi apartamento (que queda en el segundo piso de su casa). Por la mañana tuvimos nuestro desayuno navideño tradicional--el pan de monos. ¡Qué rico! Luego, G y L vinieron a cenar con nosotros. Yo hice un jamón con cranberry, mi mamá hizo un plato de batatas y manzanas y unos pasteles, y G trajo unas ricas galletas navideñas.

On Christmas Day, we opened gifts at my parents' house and at my apartment (which is on the second floor of their house). In the morning, we had our traditional Christmas breakfast--monkey bread. Mmm, so good! Then, G and L came to have dinner with us. I made a baked cranberry ham, my mom made a sweet potato and apple dish and some pies, and G brought some delicious Christmas cookies.

Después de Navidad, A y K y la familia de K vinieron a pasar unos días con nosotros. Los papás de K recién habían llegado de África. Fue lindo conocerlos, y también tener a toda la familia juntos este año. Sólo quisiera haber sacado más fotos. He completamente llenado mi cámara y necesito ir a Walgreen´s para hacer un CD...

After Christmas, A and K and K's family came to spend a few days with us. K's parents had just recently arrived from Africa. It was really nice to meet them and also to have all the family together this year. I only wish I had more pictures. I have completely filled my camera and really need to go to Walgreen's to put them on a CD...

En cuanto a Lily, espero que le gustó la Navidad. Ella recibió unos "treats" (sabor a pescado) y una cama nueva. Mi hermano T la conoció por primera vez y estaba aprendiendo a jugar con ella (con cuidado...que es muy energética y tiene sus uñas).

As for Lily, I hope that she liked Christmas. She received some treats (fish-flavored) and a new bed. My brother T met her for the first time and was learning how to play with her (very carefully...because she is very energetic and has her claws).
