Lily's Pad/El cuarto de Lily

¡Lily ya tiene su propio cuarto (o apartamento según mi mamá) con su cocina, su baño y su cama! :-) Había un closet al lado de mi cocina que vaciamos y limpiamos. Convertí la mitad del closet en un sitio para poner la bandeja de Lily y su comida. A mí me gusta no tener su bandeja en plena vista. También si tengo visitas y necesito dónde poner a Lily, ella puede ir a "su cuarto."

Lily now has her own room (or apartment, according to my mother)--complete with her kitchen, bathroom, and bed! :-) There was a closet next to the kitchen that we emptied and cleaned out. I made half the closet into a place to put Lily's litter box and her food. As for me, I like not having her litter box in plain view. Also, if I have visitors and need somewhere to put Lily, she can go to "her room."

Remembering Christmas in Puerto Rico/Recordando la Navidad en Puerto Rico

Cuando yo vivía en Puerto Rico, los hermanos de la iglesia nos reuníamos cada miércoles por la noche durante el mes de diciembre en casa de algún hermano. Todos comemos y cantamos las canciones navideñas típicas de Puerto Rico. Esas noches de canciones eran una de mis cosas favoritas de vivir en Puerto Rico. Le doy gracias a Dios por esa oportunidad que me dio.

Sé que el video salió oscuro, pero espero que disfruten del ritmo y de la melodía de este villancico puertorriqueño. Me encanta que casi todo el mundo participaba en tocar la canción--con maracas, tambores, palitos, y varios otros instrumentos. Hoy en mi casa prendí un disco de música navideña puertorriqueña y me puse a tocar.

While I was living in Puerto Rico, my church would meet each Wednesday evening during the month of December in one of the brother's homes. We all ate and sang typical Puerto Rican Christmas songs. Those nights of singing were one of my favorite things about living in Puerto Rico. I thank the Lord for that opportunity that He gave me.

I know that the video came out rather dark, but I hope you enjoy the rhythm and melody of this PR Christmas "carol." I love that almost everyone participated in playing the song--with maracas, drums, sticks, and various other instruments. Today at home, I turned on a CD of Puerto Rican Christmas music and played along!

My Home Depot Christmas Tree/Mi árbol navideño de Home Depot

Sí, ¡éste es mi primer árbol verdadero que es completamente mío! No pude pasar estas Navidades en mi propio apartamento sin comprar un árbol. Estoy muy agradecida por los empleados de Home Depot que me ayudaron por el proceso de comprarlo ya que yo no sabía lo que estaba haciendo. :-) Aunque mi árbol se parece un poco a un arbusto, me encanta. Es muy verde y lleno--y lleno de esperanza de los años venideros en que seguiré llenando mi árbol de recuerdos.

...y si están preguntando si yo verdaderamente tengo un vasito encima del árbol, es la verdad. Estoy pensando usarlo para hacer una estrella, y lo dejé allí cuando saqué la foto. :-)

Yes, this is my first real Christmas tree of my very own! I couldn't spend this Christmas in my apartment without buying a tree. I am very thankful for the employees at Home Depot that helped me through the process of buying one since I didn't know what I was doing. :-) Even though my tree looks a little like a bush, I love it. It's green and full--and full of hope of coming years in which I will continue filling my tree with memories.

...and if you're all wondering if I really have a styrofoam cup on top of the tree, it is true. I'm thinking about using it to make a star, and I left it there when I took the picture. :-)

Divine Appointment/Una cita divina

Mi papá usa esta frase para describir un encuentro con otros cristianos, generalmente no planeado. Así nos pasó el domingo cuando nuestros planes de cortar árboles de Navidad en una finca con G y L terminaron en comer en casa de los padres de L.

My dad uses this phrase to describe meeting up with other believers, usually not planned. That is what happened to us on Sunday when our plans of cutting down Christmas trees on a farm with G and L ended up with us eating at L's parents' house.

En camino a casa de G y L, se pinchó una goma del carro. Mi papá no tenía la llave para quitarla, así que G y L vinieron a ayudar a cambiar la goma. Mi mamá, mi papá y yo rotamos para velar los carros que venían. En cuanto cambiaron la goma, nos fuimos. Pensábamos que, por lo menos, pudiéramos comprar un árbol ya cortado en vez de cortar uno ya que la noche se acercaba.

On the way to G and L's house, one of the tires went flat. My dad did not have the wrench to remove the tire, so G and L came to help change it. My mom, my dad, and I took turns watching for cars. As soon as they changed the tire, we left. We thought that at least we could buy a pre-cut tree instead of cutting one down ourselves since it was getting darker outside.

Pero...la goma de repuesto también se pinchó y no había dónde conseguir otra. Gracias a Dios, pudimos llegar hasta la casa de los padres de L. Mi mamá trajo adentro los pasteles de espinaca que había preparado para comer con G y L, y pedimos unas pizzas. Entonces, los papás de L llamaron a su otro hijo y su esposa para que vinieran a comer con nosotros. Nos divertimos mucho, y fue una bendición compartir con todos ellos. Al final, ellos dijeron que mi papá podía dejar el carro con la goma pinchada en su casa hasta que mi papá comprara otra goma, y L y G nos ofrecieron su carro por algunos días. Le doy gracias a Dios por su generosidad y también porque Él está en control de todas las cosas. Él puede hacer que las cosas que parecen "malas" o "desilusionadoras" se vuelvan en preciosas bendiciones.

But...the spare tire also went flat, and there was nowhere to buy another. Thank the Lord, we were able to make it to L's parents' house. My mom brought inside her spinach pies, which she had prepared to eat with G and L, and we ordered some pizzas. Then, L's parents called their other son and his wife to come eat with us. We had a lot of fun, and it was a blessing to have fellowship with all of them. At the end, L's parents' told my dad that he could leave the car at their house until my dad could buy another tire, and L and G offered us the use of their car for a few days. I thank the Lord for their generosity and also for the fact that He is in control of all things. He can make things that seem terrible or disappointing turn into precious blessings.

Tengo que decir que estoy muy impresionada por cómo se maneja una nevada tan grande aquí. Según las noticias, se cayeron entre 30 y 40 pulgadas de nieve (aunque yo medí 21-22 pulgadas en el patio de atrás). Donde yo crecí, una nevada así cerraría toda la ciudad y las calles no serían limpiadas por, a lo menos, una semana.

I have to say that I am very impressed at how such a big snowstorm is handled here. According to the news, between 30 and 40 inches of snow fell (although I measured 21-22 inches in the backyard). Where I grew up, a snowfall like this would shut down the entire city, and the streets would not be plowed for, at least, a week.

Aquí, para la mañana siguiente la mayoría de las calles estaban suficiente limpias (aunque todavía con bastante nieve y hielo) para guiar el carro, y la gente iba al trabajo. Las escuelas si cerraron por un día o dos, pero fue increíble cuán rápidamente todo se volvió a lo normal.

Here, by the following morning, the majority of the streets were sufficiently cleared (although still quite snowy and icy) to drive on, and people were going to work. Schools did close for a day or two, but it was incredible how quickly everything went back to normal.

Hurricane/Huracán

Mientras que vivía en P.R., me preguntaba si iba a ver un huracán. De hecho, yo deseaba experimentar uno. Lo único es que no quería que nadie se lastimara. Pues, salí de P.R. sin ver ningún huracán y pensé que ese deseo (casi) secreto jamás se realizara...

hasta hoy.

Mi hermana G y mi mamá me llevaron al ¨mall¨ y me metieron en una máquina que hace viento para simular un huracán. ¡Me divertí tanto, nadie se lastimó, y, lo mejor de todo es que tengo fotos!

While I was living in P.R., I always wondered whether or not I would see a hurricane. Actually, I really wanted to experience one. The only thing is that I didn´t want anyone to get hurt. Well, I left P.R. without seeing a hurricane and thought that my (almost) secret desire would never be fulfilled...

until today.

My sister G and my mom took me to the mall and put me in a hurricane simulator machine. I had so much fun, nobody was hurt, and, best of all, I have pictures!

Hoy tuve el privilegio de cantar en una conferencia misionera. La conferencia estuvo muy buena y me dio ganas de ser una embajadora de Cristo fiel en este mundo. Un hombre habló de la obra entre los musulmanes de Albania, y otro habló de la obra de Dios en Zimbabwe.

Después de la conferencia, el misionero a Albania me dijo que nunca había oído esa canción en inglés y que esa canción fue traducida del italiano al idioma de Albania. Sonriendo, yo le contesté, "Yo la aprendí primero en español." Cuando primero la escuché en P.R., me encantó tanto que busqué la letra en inglés en la Internet. Es increíble que algunas bellas canciones como ésta pueda conectar y bendecir a cristianos de todas partes del mundo. Si les gustaría ver la letra, "cliqueen" aquí.

Today I had the privilege to sing at a missionary conference. The conference was very good and made me want to be a faithful ambassador for Christ in this world. One man spoke of the work among Muslims in Albania, and other spoke of God's work in Zimbabwe.

After the conference, the missionary to Albania told me that he had never heard that song in English before and that the song had been translated from Italian into the Albanian language. Smiling, I responded, "I first learned that song in Spanish." When I first heard the song in P.R., I liked it so much that I looked for the English lyrics on the Internet. My Little Niece or Nephew/Mi sobrinito o sobrinita

L y G fueron hoy a tener un sonograma del bebé. G ya lleva 18 semanas con 5 días. Gracias a Dios, todo salió muy bien, y G y L vinieron a casa para mostrarnos la foto del bebecito. Los dos se veían tan contentos y emocionados. ¡Yo también estoy contentísima por ser titi!

Esta foto yo le saqué a la foto de sonograma, así que no es de la mejor calidad, pero yo, como la "orgullosa" titi, quería presentarles a mi dulce sobrinito(a).

L and G went to have a sonogram of the baby today. G is now 18 week and 5 days along. Thank the Lord, everything went very well, and G and L came to our house to show us the baby's picture. Both of them looked so happy and excited. I am also very happy to be an aunt!

I took this picture of the sonogram, so it's not the best quality, but, being the "proud" auntie, I wanted to introduce you all to my sweet little niece/nephew.

Re-Discovery!/El "re-descubrimiento"

Part of the adventure of living in another place/country is returning "home" and "re-discovering" all those things that used to be so familiar and yet somehow were forgotten while away. It's amazing what little things can trigger the thought, "Wow. I really have lived in another part of the world." Some of my "re-discoveries" have been...

1. "No Turn on Red" signs. I don't remember ever seeing one in PR. I had to get used to looking for them before just turning at a red light!

2. apple cider. I had forgotten about this delicious fall tradition.

3. the fact that car windows start fogging/frosting up when it's cold outside

4. all the barely pronounceable last names that are so common in the USA. (In Puerto Rico, almost all the names are Hispanic, and, if you know Spanish phonetics, you can read/pronounce anything.)

6. bumblebees

Una parte de la aventura de vivir en otro lugar/país es el regresar a casa y descubrir de nuevo todas las cosas que antes conocías, pero, de alguna manera, se te habían olvidado. Es asombroso que las cosas tan pequeñas puedan hacerte pensar, "Wao. De veras, yo viví en otra parte del mundo." Aquí están algunos re-descubrimientos míos...

1. los rótulos "No virar en luz roja". Que yo sepa, nunca vi ninguno en PR. Tuve que acostumbrarme de nuevo a buscarlos antes de virar.

2. la sidra de manzana. Se me había olvidado esta tradición deliciosa del otoño.

3. que el agua se condensa o se congela en las ventanas del carro cuando hace frío.

4. todos los apellidos poco pronunciables que son tan frecuentes aquí en los E.U. En PR casi todos los apellidos son hispanos y, si sabes la fonética española, puedes leer y pronunciar todo.

My Brother's Names/Los nombres de mis hermanos

Estoy segura que han notado que en mi blog, uso solamente las iniciales para identificar a una persona. Generalmente, eso funciona bastante bien, pero hay un caso que, hace mucho tiempo, me ha frustrado y confundido y me ha dejado pensando en qué hacer. Es que tengo dos hermanos que tienen las mismas iniciales--aún para el segundo nombre--y cada vez que me refiero a ellos, podría ser cualquiera de los dos. He decidido que el mayor de ellos será "T" y el menor "t". Yo había pensado también en usar "T1" y "T2", pero decidí que eso era un poco confuso porque mi hermano T tiene el mismo nombre de mi papá, y ustedes podrían pensar que me refiriera a mi papá y a ese hermano. ¿Entienden? :-) Así que, de aquí en adelante, mis hermanos serán "T" y "t".

I am sure that you all have noticed that, in my blog, I only use people's first initials. Generally, this system works pretty well, but there is one case that, for a long time, has frustrated, confused, and left me wondering about what to do. It's that I have two brothers with the same initials--even for the middle name--and each time that I refer to them, I could be talking about either one of my brothers. I've decided that the older of them will be "T" and the younger "t." I had also thought about using "T1" and "T2," but I decided that that was too confusing because my brother T has the same name as my dad, and you all could possibly think that I was referring to my dad and to that brother. Do you get it? :-) So, from now on, my brothers will be "T" and "t."

Hot Logs

Mis padres acaban de comprar el juego "Wii" y hemos estado disfrutando de jugarlo juntos como familia. Además, es algo que mi hermano T, que tiene autismo, puede hacer. Mi familia siempre me dice que hago unos movimientos muy exagerados cuando juego--como si yo estuviera de verdad en el juego.

My parents just bought the Wii game, and we have been enjoying playing it together as a family. It's also something that my brother T, who has autism, can do. My family always tells me that I make really exaggerated movements when I play--as if I were really in the game.

Como hemos tenido unos días bellos, decidimos a cocinar afuera en la parrilla, y G y L vinieron a comer en casa. Queríamos hacer hamburguesas, pero solo teníamos los panes (?) para hot dogs. Mi mamá, que es muy creativa, decidió a formar la carne molida para usar con esos panes. Nos encantaron a todos, y L dijo que debemos llamarles "hot logs" en vez de "hot dogs".

Since we've been having some beautiful fall days, we decided to cook outside on the grill, and G and L came to eat at home with us. We wanted to make hamburgers, but we only had hot dog rolls. My very creative mother decided to shape the ground beef to use it with the hot dog rolls. We liked them a lot, and L said that we should call them "hot logs" instead of "hot dogs."

Además de jugar Wii y comer, G quería enseñarle a L algunas fotos de cuando ella era chiquita. Saqué mis álbumes y pasaron un rato mirándolos.

Besides playing Wii and eating, G wanted to show L show photos of her as a little girl. I took out my scrapbook albums, and they spent some time looking at them.

Meet Nibbles./Les presento a Nibbles.

Hay un nuevo miembro de la familia. Se llama "Nibbles". "Nibbles" es una pez beta. (¿Así se dice si es hembra?) A Lily le encanta su "hermanita" (Le encantaría comérsela también.) :-), y a mí me gusta ver a mis niñas "jugar".

There is a new member of the family. Her name is Nibbles. Nibbles is a Betta fish. Lily loves her little "sister" (She would love to eat her too.) :-), and I enjoy seeing my little girls "playing" together.

The Rock Is Dark and Wet./La piedra está oscura y mojada.

Me imagino que se están preguntando qué significa el título de este blog. ;-) La clave está en una de las fotos. Así está la piedra el día de hoy.

Salí con Lily al patio de atrás y no estaba segura si le iba a gustar, pero, después de varios minutos, se aventuró y se diviertió explorando y comiendo hierba.

I bet you are all wondering what the title of this blog could mean. ;-) The key is in one of the photos. That's is what the rock is like today.

I took Lily outside in the backyard today and wasn't sure that she was going to like it, but, after several minutes, she ventured out and had fun exploring and eating grass.

Hace una semana y media, las mujeres de varias iglesias tuvimos un retiro en un campamento cristiano rural. Me di cuenta que se nota más el cambio de las temporadas en el campo. Las hojas habían empezado a cambiarse de color y eran tan bellas. También fue de mucha bendición escuchar los mensajes sobre Prov. 3:5-6 y los testimonios de dos hermanas. De noche nos quedamos en varios edificios del campamento. Yo dormí en el tercer edificio que está más lejos en la foto.

A week and a half ago, the ladies from several churches had a retreat in a rural Christian camp. I realized how much one can see the change of seasons in the country. The leaves were just starting to change color and were so beautiful. It was also a blessing to listen to the messages on Prov. 3:5-6 and the testimonies from two sisters in Christ. At night, we stayed in various camp buildings. I slept in the third building that is the farthest away in the picture.

A Weekend with Friends/Un fin de semana con amistades

El miércoles 15 recibí un e-mail emocionante. H, una amiga mía iba para New Hampshire, y, ya que mi casa estaba en el camino, me preguntó si podría pasar la noche aquí conmigo. ¡Le dije que claro que sí! H y su hermana J llegaron el viernes por la noche. Visitamos un ratito esa noche y la mañana siguiente antes que se fueron. El tiempo fue corto, pero ¡qué alegría verlas a las dos!

On Wednesday the 15th, I received an exciting e-mail. My friend H was traveling to New Hampshire and, since my house was on the way, she asked to stay the night here with me. I told her that of course she could!! H and her sister J arrived Friday night. We spent some time visiting that night and the following morning before they had to leave. The time was short, but it was so wonderful to see them!

Esta semana estamos pasando por otra aventura. Los tubos debajo de nuestra casa están filtrando agua y tienen que arreglarse. Ya que el agua que está saliendo puede dañar la fundación de la casa, tenemos el agua cerrado. A veces mi papá lo abre por mediahora para que podamos bañarnos y llenar unos envases de agua. Les dije a mis amigas que no teníamos agua, pero yo sabía que para ellas no sería ningún problema porque crecieron en otro país. Una me dijo, "Ésta es la casa más divertida en que me he quedado desde hace mucho tiempo".

This week we're going through another adventure. The pipes under our house are leaking water and need to be repaired. Since the water that's leaking can damage the foundation of the house, we have the water shut off. Sometimes my dad opens the water for a half hour so that we can shower and fill containers with water. I told my friends that we didn't have water, but I knew that they would have no problem with that since they grew up in another country. One of them said to me, "This is the most fun house I've stayed at in a long time."

El sábado y el domingo pasé con amistades también, pero hoy G, mi mamá, y yo tuvimos una aventura muy especial. Después de la iglesia, G y L vinieron a visitar con nosotros en casa. Mientras los varones miraban la televisión, nosotras las mujeres salimos de compras a Target porque G quería comprar ropa para el embarazo. Ya lleva 12 semanas, y pronto la va a necesitar. :-) ¡Fue tan divertido salir juntas! Cuando llegamos a casa, mi papá y L había preparado una cena de espagueti y sándwiches de jalea y mantequilla de maní. ¡Que dulces son para hacer esa comida!

I spent Saturday and Sunday with friends as well, but today G, my mom, and I had a very special adventure. After church, G and L came to visit with us at home. While the men stayed home and watched television, we ladies went shopping at Target because G wanted to buy maternity clothes. She's already 12 weeks along and will need it soon! :-) It was so fun to go out together! When we arrived home, my dad and L had prepared a dinner of spaghetti and PBJ sandwiches. They were so sweet to make that food for us!

Drumroll please... :-)

¡Me alegra mucho decirles que, si Dios quiere, voy a ser tía! G y L están esperando un bebé para el 5 de abril. G ya tiene 10 semanas, y, hasta ahora, todo va muy bien.

I am very happy to tell you all that, Lord willing, I'm going to be an aunt! G and L are expecting a baby sometime around April 5. G is already 10 weeks along, and, so far, all's going well.

Labor Day/Día del trabajo

Hoy fuimos a casa de los papás de mi cuñado L. Nos divertimos muchísimo. Comimos elotes asados y bistec, jugamos juegos en el patio, y compartimos los unos con los otros. También G me enseñó el cobertizo donde nació Lily, mi gatita.

Today we went to my brother-in-law L's parents' house. We had so much fun. We ate roasted corn and steak, played games in the yard, and fellowshipped with each other. G also showed me the shed where my kitten Lily was born.

Lily - 4 1/2 mos./meses

Hace tiempo que no subo fotos de Lily. Quería enseñarles cómo está creciendo mi bella gatita. Tiene una cola muy larga y gruesa. :-)

It's been a long time since I've uploaded pictures of Lily. I wanted to show you all how my beautiful kitten is growing. She has a long and thick tail.

Jesus is the Way!/¡Jesús es el camino!

El domingo después del culto en la iglesia unos hermanos salimos a una de las calles principales en el pueblo. Cada persona llevaba una cartulina con una palabra o frase del versículo Juan 14:6. Nos pusimos en una fila en la acera para que el tráfico pudiera leerlo. Algunas personas nos tocaron la bocina. A otras personas no les gustó, pero estábamos muy emocionados y felices por poder representar a Cristo así. Nos divertimos juntos cantando también.

On Sunday after church some Christian brothers and sisters and I went out to one of the main streets in town. Each person took along a poster board with a word or phrase from John 14:6. We formed a line on the sidewalk so that the traffic could read it. Some people honked their horns. Other people didn't like it, but we were very excited and happy to be able to represent Christ in that way. We had a lot of fun singing as well.

Niagara Falls/Las cascadas Niágara

Hoy G y L vinieron a almorzar con nosotros en casa. Después mi papá sugirió que fuéramos a caminar en las cascadas Niágara. Hacía tiempo que no las había visto. Me quedé asombrada por el poder y la belleza de las cascadas. Aquí tengo dos videos--uno del corriente del río Niágara y otro de las cascadas.

Today G and L came to have lunch with us at home. Afterwards, my dad suggested that we go to walk at Niagara Falls. It had been a long time since I had seen them. I was amazed by the power and beauty of the falls. Here are two videos--one of the current of the Niagara River and another of the falls.

Day on the River/Un día en el río

Hoy unos hermanos de la iglesia y yo salimos para la tierra de la nación Seneca. Allí entre las hermosas colinas y la verdura de los arboles, remamos unas canoas varias millas por el río. Vimos un venado nadando y un águila pescando. Fue la primera vez que paseé en canoa en un río. Mi papá y yo fuimos juntos en una canoa y fue tan lindo compartir esa experiencia con él. No tengo fotos porque no quise llevar la cámara en la canoa para que no se mojara, pero siempre será un recuerdo bonito de la vida.

Today some church friends and family and I set out for the land of the Seneca nation. There, among the beautiful hills and the green of the forest, we rowed several miles in canoes along the river. We saw a deer swimming and a bald eagle fishing. It was the first time that I had gone canoeing on a river. My dad and I went together in a canoe, and it was so nice to share that experience with him. I don't have pictures because I didn't want to take the camera in the canoe so that it didn't get wet, but it will always be a beautiful memory.

Este domingo enseñé la clase de los niños de 2 a 3 años por mi mamá. Vinieron dos niños. Como fue la primera vez que enseñé esta clase, estaba pensando en qué decir para que los niños me conocieran y aprendieran mi nombre. Bueno, ¿qué harían ustedes si, después de presentarse a los niños como la "Srta. R_____", se dieran cuenta que los únicos dos niños en la clase son primos suyos?

Me imagino que harían igual que yo...

"Ah...¡ustedes son mis primos! Así que...no me tienen que llamar "Srta. R_____". Me pueden llamar "R_____".

Se complica aún más cuando uno piensa que yo tengo que explicar que soy la hija de la otra maestra "R_____" que para ellos es la "tía R_____" pero para otros niños sería la "Sra. R_____".

Estoy segura que completamente confundí a estos muchachitos. ¿Ahora qué voy a hacer si viene otro niño que no es primo? ¿Me llamarán algunos "R_____" y otros "Srta. R_____"?


This Sunday I taught the 2- and 3-year-old Sunday school class for my mom. Two little boys came. Since it was the first time that I taught this class, I was thinking about what to say so that the children could get to know me and learn my name. Well, what would you do if, after introducing yourself to the children as "Miss R_____," you realize that the only two children in the class are your cousins?

I imagine that you would do the same thing I did...

"Uh...you guys are my cousins! So...you don't have to call me "Miss R_____." You can call me "R_____."

The situation gets more complicated if you consider that I have to explain that I am the daughter of the other teacher "R_____" who, for them, is "Aunt R_____" but, for other children, is "Mrs. R_____."

I'm sure that I completely confused those little boys. Now, what will I do if a child comes who is not my cousin? Will some call me "R_____" and others "Miss R_____"?

Special Time with Mom/Un día especial con mamá

El domingo 8, mi mamá y yo salimos juntas por la tarde. Ella había comprado unos boletos para ver una competencia de bandas de marcha. Cuando empezaron las bandas, me asombré mucho. No sabía que las presentaciones iban a ser tan complicadas musicalment y visualmente. Mi banda favorita fue la que tocó varias piezas de "El mago de Oz". No solamente tocaron la música, sino que también actuaron. ¡Fue casi un drama!

On Sunday, August 8, my mom and I had a girls' outing. She had bought two tickets to see a marching band competition. When the bands started, I was amazed. I had had no idea that the presentations were going to be so musically and visually complex. My favorite band was the one that played several songs from "The Wizard of Oz." Not only did they play the music, but they also acted the story. It was almost a play!

Summer Happenings/Así estoy pasando el verano

El 12 de junio empecé mi nuevo trabajo como asistente oftálmica. Me gusta mucho, y estoy aprendiendo algo nuevo todos los días. Hasta ahora puedo llevar a los pacientes a los cuartos para ver al médico, preparar inyecciones, abrir el archivo computarizado del paciente, limpiar los instrumentos médicos, ponerles gotas y ungüente para el ojo a los pacientes, y hacer algunas otras cosas también.

On June 12, I began my new job as ophthalmic technician. I like it a lot and am learning something new every day. So far, I can take patients to rooms to see the doctor, prepare injections, open the patients´ computer file, clean medical instruments, put drops and ointments in patients´ eyes, and do various other things.

Aparte de eso, sigo disfrutando con mi familia. El 1 de agosto empecé a alquilar el apartamento de mis papás. Es muy divertido poder pensar en decoraciones y muebles y otras cosas para la casa.

Besides that, I'm still enjoying being with my family. On Aug. 1, I started renting my parents´ apartment. It´s so fun to think about decorations and furniture and other things for the house.

Bueno, como casi no puedo escribir un "blog" sin mencionar a mi bella gatita ;-), aquí está otra foto. Lily tiene 3.5 meses. Dos o tres veces a la semana la llevo afuera para explorar el patio de atrás. Le encanta salir. ¡No se ve todos los días un gato o una gata con un arnés puesto!

Well, since I can hardly write a blog post without mentioning my beautiful kitten ;-), here is another photo. Lily is 3.5 months old. Two or three times a week I take her outside so that she can explore the backyard. She loves to go out. It's not everyday that one sees a cat in a harness!
