Apple Jack Chicken/El pollo con manzana y queso

Esta noche les hice una comida a mis papas y a Toby en mi apartamento. Quiero y necesito la practica y mis papas están muy felices por animarme a hacerlo. :-) Escogi una receta que se llama "Apple Jack Chicken" y me encanto como salió. Son unas pechugas de pollo asadas al horno con manzanas y queso blanco. Creo que esta receta será una que usare varias veces! También hice bróculi, arroz integral, y una salsa. Salio bien el bróculi, pero el arroz quedo soso y no me gusto la salsa (Le eche manzanas.), pero esta bien. Ahora se lo que me gusta y como podría mejorar.

Tonight I made a meal for my parents and Toby in my apartment. I want (and need) the practice, and my parents are very happy to encourage me! :-) I chose a recipe called "Apple Jack Chicken" and loved how it turned out. It's made from chicken breasts baked in the oven with slices of apple and Monterey Jack cheese. I think this will be a recipe that I'll use many times! I also made broccoli, brown rice, and a gravy. The broccoli was good, but the rice was rather bland, and I didn't like the gravy. (I put apples in it. Kind of gross, I know...) That's okay though. Now I know what works and what I can improve.

Christmas with My Knight/La Navidad con mi caballero

Mi novio y yo tuvimos una cita (por telefono) a la medianoche para abrir nuestros regalos de Navidad. :-) Habiamos esperado toda una semana, y por fin llego el día, la hora, el momento de abrirlos. Que emoción! A las 11:59 recibí la llamada y rapidito y con alegría abrimos los regalos, describiendo con detalle mientras hablábamos por teléfono.

Me escribio una linda tarjeta con mucho amor, decorada por frente con copitos de nieve y por dentro con corazones que el dibujo. Me encantan también las pantallitas verdecitas que me envio. Van a combinar muy bien con la ropa navideña mañana, y no son de níquel así que no me van a picar las orejas. :-) Ademas, me envio una serie buenísima de algunos mensajes predicados por el pastor de su iglesia. Ya los había escuchado una vez por la Internet y me gustan mucho. Estoy feliz por tenerlos ahora en forma de CD.

My boyfriend and I had a date (by telephone) at midnight to open our Christmas presents. :-) We had been waiting a whole week, and finally the day, the hour, the moment had arrived to open them. How exciting! I received his call at 11:59, and we quickly and happily opened the gifts, describing with detail while we talked on the phone.

He wrote me a beautiful, loving card, which is decorated on the front with snowflakes and on the inside with hearts drawn by his hand. I also love the pale jade earrings that he sent. They are going to look so nice for Christmas tomorrow, and they are nickel-free so they're not going to irritate my ears. :-) Lastly, he sent me an excellent series of messages given by the pastor of his church. I have already listened to them online and like them a lot. It is nice to have them now in hard-copy form.

Christmastide with the Family/Las Navidades con la familia

Aquí están algunos momentos sobresalientes de las Navidades. Las pudimos pasar todos juntos como familia. Mi hermano T llegaron el martes, y A y K llegaron anoche. Fue la primera vez que T pudo ver a su sobrinito P.

También, esta es la primera Navidad de P, y le encanto abrir sus regalitos. Ya camina muy bien con su juguete para caminar.

Here are some highlights of Christmastide. This year we were able to spend it all together as a family. My brother T arrived on Tuesday, and A and K arrived last night. This was the first time that T saw his nephew P.

This is also P's first Christmas, and he loved opening his presents. He already walks very well with his stand-up walking toy.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.../Decorando la casa para las navidades

El fin de semana pasado decidí a decorar mi apartamento para las navidades. Guinde unas luces blancas y algunos adornos en una pared y compre un pequeño árbol verdadero en un tiesto. Este árbol es mas pequeño aun que el "arbusto" que tuve el ano pasado, pero ya que compre un piano en abril, no me quedan rincones para colocar un árbol grande. Este arbolito sirve muy bien para decorar la mesa junto con algunos regalitos para familiares y algunos mios. (Y estoy muy orgullosa de Lily porque no se esta comiendo el arbol!)

Si toman nota...hay un sobre bastante grande al lado derecho del arbolito. Es un regalito de mi novio. :-) Tengo ganas de abrirlo, pero hay que esperar el día de Navidad. :-) (Yo le envie un regalo también, y lo recibió esta semana.)

Last weekend I decided to decorate my apartment for Christmas. I hung a string of white lights and some ornaments along one wall and bought a small live tree in a pot. This tree is even smaller than the "bush" I had last year, but since I bought a piano in April I don't have any corners to put a large tree. This little tree is just perfect to decorate the table along with some presents for family members and some presents of my own. (And I am very proud of Lily who is not eating the tree!)

If you take notice...there is a pretty big envelope to the right of the tree. It's a present from my sweet boyfriend. :-) I am looking forward to opening it but have to wait until Christmas. :-) (I sent him a gift too, and he received it this week.)

A New Adventure/Una Nueva Aventura

Estoy alabando al Senor por esta nueva aventura que me ha traído a la vida. Desde agosto 2011 me he estado comunicando con un hombre que conocí por medio de Christian Mingle. Es un hombre de Dios que ama mucho al Senor y quiere vivir para Su gloria. Es muy paciente y manso y tiene un amor por la palabra de Dios. Estoy muy agradecida por el y por lo que Dios esta haciendo en nuestras vidas. Ademas, este hombre es un músico muy talentoso y desea usar su talento para Dios. El domingo pasado hablo con mi papa y ya estamos en un noviazgo oficial. Gloria a Dios!

I am praising the Lord for this new adventure that He has brought into my life. Since August 2011, I have been communicating with a man that I met through Christian Mingle. He is a man of God who really loves the Lord and wants to live for His glory. He is very patient and gentle and has a love for the word of God. I am very thankful for him and for what God is doing in our lives. In addition, this man is a very talented musician who desires to use his talent for God. Last Sunday he spoke with my dad, and we are now in an official courtship relationship. Praise the Lord!

Mi sobrino P - 8 months/meses

Este fin de semana tuvimos una visita de esta linda familia. Llegaron el viernes y pasaron la noche en casa con nosotros. Me alegre mucho de ver a P y a mi hermana y mi cunado. Cada vez que veo a P ha crecido y aprendido mas. Es muy fuerte e inteligente. P ya sabe caminar y moverse agarrando el sofa. Ya prontito estara caminando!! A veces, si esta tratando de coger un juguete, suelta el sofa y se para solo por un momento, pero rapidito tiene que agarrar el sofa de nuevo o se pierde el equilibrio. Dios te bendiga, P, y a tus papas que buscan criarte para ser algun dia un hombre de Dios.

This weekend we had a visit from this lovely family. They came on Friday and spent the night at home with us. I was so happy to see P and his mommy and daddy. Each time I see P, he has grown and learned so much. He is very strong and smart. P already knows how to walk along the side of the sofa. Soon he will be walking alone!! Sometimes, if he is trying to reach a toy, he lets go of the sofa and stands alone for a moment, but quickly he has to hold on again or he loses his balance. The Lord bless you, P, and your mommy and daddy as they desire to raise you to be a man of God someday.

Este ano celebramos nuestro primer Accion de gracias con P. P esta empezando a probar otras comidas, asi que el tambien pudo disfrutar de un platito pequeno de comida. :-)

This year we celebrated our first Thanksgiving with P. P is beginning to try other foods, and so he too was able to enjoy a little bowl of the Thanksgiving meal. :-)

Miren bien lo que encontramos dentro de un cartón de huevos que mis padres habían comprado en Aldi's. Me alegro pensar en la gente que empaco estos huevos y decidió a sellar un versículo dentro del cartón. Hasta un empacador de huevos puede tener una gran influencia para Dios.

Look at what I found inside an egg carton that my parents bought at Aldi's. It gave me pleasure to think about the people who packed these eggs and decided to stamp a Bible verse inside the carton. Even an egg-carton packer can have a great influence for God!

My Mom's New Wheels/El carro nuevo de mi mama

Hoy mi mama cambio su carro viejo por un carro nuevo--un Ford Escape verde. Estoy feliz por ella y porque tiene un vehículo mas confiable para guiar en la nieve este invierno. Felicidades, mama! Te amo.

Today my mom traded in her old car for a new one--a green Ford Escape. I am happy for her that she has a more reliable vehicle to drive in the snow this winter. Congratulations, mama! I love you.

P Is Six Months Old/P tiene seis meses

Hoy tuve un día libre (Me encantan estos días libres!) y fui a casa de mi hermana G en el campo para visitar con ella y con mi sobrino P. Viven en un área bien bello y lleno de fincas (de uvas, de ganado, de maiz...). Ahora todo se ve aun mas bello con las hojas amarillas, rojas y anaranjadas del otoño.

Today I had a day off (I love days off!), and I went to my sister G's house in the country to visit with her and with my nephew P. They live in a beautiful area, which is full of farms (grapes, cattle, and corn...). Now everything is even more beautiful with the yellow, red, and orange leaves of autumn.

P tiene seis meses y esta avanzando muy rápidamente. La semana pasada empezó a gatear y ahora esta gateando mucho. Se sienta solo y aun se arrodilla para sacar sus juguetes de su canasta. Me parece que dentro de poco estará caminando agarrando los muebles. Yo tuve el privilegio de darle un poco de chícharos. Se canso rápidamente de la comida, pero, por lo menos llegamos a sacar unas buenas fotos. :-)

P is six months old and is advancing rapidly. Last week he started to crawl, and now he is crawling a lot! He sits by himself and even kneels to take his toys out of the toy basket. It seems that very soon he will be walking while holding onto the furniture. I had the privilege of giving him a little bit of sweet peas. He quickly tired of the food, but at least we got some good pictures. :-)

Farewell to the Chiclets/Adiós a los "Chiclets"

Hoy todos mis codornices se fueron con unas nuevas familias. Esta semana me enteré de que había un evento de canarios y finches. Contacté a la presidente del evento y de esa sociedad de pájaros para preguntar si yo podía donar mis codornices para la rifa. Dijo que sí y esta mañana llevé los cinco pajaritos al evento.

Today all my button quails went home with new families. This week I found out that there was a canary and finch show today. I contacted the president of the event and of the bird society to ask if I could donate my quails to the raffle. She said yes, and this morning I packed the five of them up to go to the event. Several of the breeders that were selling other birds bid for the quails.

The Shot Heard Round the Town/El disparo en el pueblo

Sí, este es nuestro patio de atrás y hay una venada. ¡Qué sorpresa encontrar una venada aquí! Nuestra vecindad no es nada rural. Hay muchas casas y bastante tráfico. Mi papá la encontró primero. El tuvo que llamar a la policía porque la venada no se veía bien. Caminaba con dificultad, se caía y estaba babeando. Mi papá y el policia creía que le había chocado un carro. (O estaba enferma o tenía la rabia.) La venada por fin salió del patio, pero se quedó en la vecindad y seguía cayéndose y teniendo dificultad en levantarse. El policía se fue a buscarla y dentro de varios minutos se oyó un disparo--un sonido triste pero una misericordia para la venada que estaba sufriendo tanto.

Yes, this is our backyard, and there is a deer. What a surprise to find a deer here! Our neighborhood is not at all rural. There are lots of houses and enough traffic. My dad found it first. He had to call the police because the deer did not look well. It was staggering, falling, and drooling. My dad and the police thought a car might have hit it. (That or the deer had rabies/was sick.) The deer finally left the yard, but it stayed in the neighborhood and kept falling and having difficulty getting up. The police went to look for it, and several minutes later we hear a shot--a sad sound but an act of mercy for the suffering deer.

25 years/años

Los papás de mi cuñado L cumplen 25 años de matrimonio este año. Hacía tiempo que querían tener una ceremonia y repetir sus votos. Pidieron a sus hijos y nueras que se pararan en frente con ellos, y el abuelo de L dio un breve mensaje. Toda la ceremonia fue una expresión bella del amor que tiene esta pareja para el Señor y para el otro. Fue un privilegio para mí poder asistir.

My brother-in-law L's parents celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary this year. For a long time, they had been wanting to have a ceremony to renew their vows. They asked their children and daughter-in-laws to stand up front with them, and L's grandpa gave a short message. The entire ceremony was a beautiful expression of the love that this couple has for the Lord and for each other. It was a privilege for me to be able to attend.

My Dad's Birthday/El cumple de mi papá

Mañana es el cumpleaños de mi papá (que también es el segundo aniversario de matrimonio de G y L). Se lo celebramos su cumple hoy a mi papá, y G y L vinieron a comer después de la iglesia. El no quería ningún bizcocho de cumpleaños, así que mi mamá le hizo un pastel de guineo y crema. Le encantó. Te amo, papá.

Tomorrow is my dad's birthday (which is also L and G's second wedding anniversary). We celebrated his birthday today, and G and L came over for dinner after church. He didn't want a birthday cake, so my mom made him a banana cream pie instead, which he loves!!! I love you, Dad.
