A journey through life. Sometimes everyday events become adventures!
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."
My parents are now privileged to live in a gated community. No, they haven't moved. Rather, the gated community is within their own home! :-)
My dad made and installed two large gates to help my brother (who is 15 and has autism) learn to stay in his room at night and still be able to use the bathroom. t would often go into my parents' room or into the kitchen at night. t is actually very excited about the gates and enjoys opening and shutting them. (My dad will lock them at night.) Even though the gates look a lot like doors to a public bathroom stall, my parents are very pleased with their new community. :-)
Last Saturday we had the privilege of participating in a very special church event. We wanted to make ourselves known to the community and also be able to present the gospel. We served a lunch of barbecued chicken (prepared by a young man from a local company, which is famous for its chicken, and prepared in the very front lawn of the church near the the road so that passersby would come to eat).
It was a blessing to see the participation of so many church members. I had no idea it was going to be so big! Some of my cousins, who own a party tent business, put up an enormous tent in the church's back parking lot as well as some smaller tents and three bounce houses for the kids. Several ladies, including my mom, served the food to those who came, and, before the event began, my mom hung a lot of dryer sheets to control the bees. Other people cleaned, took out the trash, sold tickets, made snowcones and cotton candy, handled the sound system and music, blew up balloons, and--I'm sure--did many other things.
The best thing of all was that we could present Jesus Christ through this event. More than one hundred people came who were not from the church. Some people bought the food and left while others stayed to eat, but each person at least received a tract and some information about the church. Also, once an hour for about five minutes my dad presented a short message to those who were there about Jesus Christ and how they could know Him as their Savior. Another exciting thing was that the church is starting an evangelistic website, Jesuscares4u.com, which we were trying to promote through this event. The church ordered balloons with the website written on them, and one brother in Christ drew a big sign with the website on it.
To put you all up to date, at the end of July we had a wonderful visit from my sister A for a long weekend. We played cards, swam in my aunt's pool, and laughed a lot. In this picture, A is ready to leave for the airport, but I couldn't let her go without taking a picture to put on my blog. The bench my parents made this summer lent itself well to a speedy photo shoot. Thank you, Lord, for my family.
Now, as the title suggests, there was a bat in my apartment! I have seen one three times since the second night A was here. The first time, my dad made it go up through the attic door and hammered the door shut. But, it seems we had a smart bat because it came down again through the heating ducts. The next day, my dad found it sleeping head down in the doorframe of one of the bedrooms. He caught it and took it outside. Then, several days later we saw it again, but we don't know how it got in. Was it the same one? My dad took it outside again. It's been a week now, and we haven't seen any more bats, but my dad does want to go up to the attic to see if we really do have a bat cave up there. In the meantime, you can all call me "Batwoman."
