Greetings from Rainy Puerto Rico

Hurricane season is back, and, while there aren't any hurricanes on the horizon, we've had plenty of rain and thunderstorms. I like the rain. Yesterday, my job let its employees go home early because of the downpour.

For those of you who don't know, my sister G is engaged!!! Her fiancee L is a very godly young man, and it's been such a blessing to see how they seek to honor the Lord in their relationship. It's also been wonderful to see God's provision for them as they plan their wedding. Their wedding date is September 26, 2009. Besides being happy for my sister, I am also excited to be a bridesmaid in their wedding with my sister A and with G's future sister-in-laws (who also happen to be some of my good friends).

On July 5, I also officially passed the 1-year mark for living here in Puerto Rico. I celebrated by being tour guide for the day and taking a new friend from Virginia to Old San Juan. I had never met her before, but, through a friend of a friend of a friend, I found out that she was in PR alone and needed someone to take her places. We had a lot of fun, visiting the forts, taking pictures and eating in an authentic PR restaurant (arroz mamposteao, mofongo, bizcocho de tres leches).

On July 17, I had my LAST follow-up appointment at the hospital for the maxillofacial surgery I had last September (to correct a right orbital floor fracture and a right zygomaticmaxillary complex fracture or, in other words, to correct fractures around my eye and cheek by putting in metal plates). Yay! The hospital appointments are done! Probably the most fun part about the appointment was that, while I was waiting for the doctor, they left my medical file in the room with me....so I read it all. It was very interesting. There was a diagram of where the three metal plates are, so now I can visualize the surgery better. I also discovered that I had had a concussion. I had assumed that I had had one, but until then no one had mentioned it--maybe because it wasn't the focus of the medical staff's attention???

As for next month, I am looking forward to a visit from my mom and sisters (Aug. 5-11). It will be so fun to take them around and show them the island that has been my home for the last year.

My main prayer request would be
--friendships for me
--Wisdom in doing discipleship with K
--Wisdom in making longer-term decisions
