P - 10 Months/meses

Disculpen que algunas fotos hayan salido algo borrosas, pero muestran que, a esta edad, mi sobrinito P es un niñito de acción! También, le encanta la cámara y siempre trata de cogerla cuando me ve sacarle una foto. Tiene una sonrisa bella.

Please excuse the fact the some photos have come out rather blurry, but they show that, at this age, my little nephew P is a little man on the move! He also loves the camera and always tries to grab it when he sees me taking a picture. He has a gorgeous smile.

He's beginning to let go of the furniture and stand alone for a few seconds. I imagine that soon he'll be taking his first steps. He made an attempt (and then fell down) right after I took this picture!

The Little Patient/La Pacientecita

Mi pequeña Lily (que pesa solo 6.1 libras) ha tenido una aventura--una que, a lo mejor no le gusta. Este jueves la lleve al hospital veterinario para ser operada. Gracias a Dios, Lily salió muy bien y yo estoy contentísima por tenerla en casa de nuevo. Me hizo falta el jueves y el viernes hasta que fui a recogerla el viernes por la noche.

Me dijeron en el hospital veterinario que Lily no debería de brincar, ni correr, ni treparse en cosas por 14 días. Prepare esta jaula en casa para que ella se descanse cuando no la puedo velar. Claro que la dejo caminar por la casa cuando estoy aquí. Lily si pasa bastante tiempo descansando y recuperandose (tal vez en parte por el medicamento que esta tomando), pero si se esta mejorando. Esta caminando y mostrando su típica curiosidad, y si brinca también a veces aunque trato de prevenirlo. :-)

My little (6.1-pound) Lilypad has had an adventure--one that she probably doesn't like. This Thursday I took her to the animal hospital to have a spay and declaw surgery. I'm so thankful that Lily came through okay and am very happy to have her back home again. I truly missed her on Thursday and Friday until I picked her up on Friday evening.

The vet tech. told me that Lily should not jump, run, or climb for 14 days, so I made a little resting area out of this cage for when I can't watch her. Of course, I let her walk around the house at times when I am there. Lily spends quite a bit of time resting and recovering (perhaps partly because of the medicine she's taking), but she is improving. She's walking and showing her typical, cute curiosity. And yes, she does jump on things sometimes although I try to prevent it. :-)

Sixteen Years Ago (on Jan. 4).../Hace dieciseis anos (el 4 de enero)...

Dieciseis anos después, celebramos el cumpleaños de t con G, L y P. Le encantaron los "brownies" de su cumpleanos.

Sixteen years later, we celebrated t's birthday with G and L and P. t loved his birthday brownies.

So that the works of God might be displayed in him.../Para que las obras de Dios se manifiesten en él...

Esta frase viene del capitulo 9 de Juan. En este capitulo Jesus sana a un ciego. Los discipulos le preguntan a Jesus por que este hombre nació ciego--si fue por algún pecado de sus padres o su propio pecado. Jesus contesta que no fue por pecado, sino que "esta ciego para que las obras de Dios se manifiesten en el."

This phrase comes from John 9. In this chapter, Jesus heals a blind man. The disciples ask Jesus why this man was born blind--if it was for some sin his parents had committed or for his own sin. Jesus answers that it wasn't because of sin, but rather "that the works of God might be displayed in him."

Hay una persona muy especial en mi vida--mi novio, un hombre de Dios--que nació ciego legal. Esta semana tuve una oportunidad única de quizás entender un poquito de lo el ve. Encontre un website donde pude pedir unas anteojos que me darían la vista de 20/200, que se considera la ceguera legal. Esta noche me puse los anteojos y saque algunas fotos de mi experiencia.

There is a very special person in my life--my boyfriend, a man of God--who was born legally blind. This week I had a unique opportunity to perhaps understand just a little bit of what he sees. I found a website where I ordered goggles that would give me 20/200 vision (which is considered legally blind). Tonight I put on the goggles and took some photographs of my experience.

Sheet music at sight-reading distance without goggles and at a few inches away with goggles. I think I could maybe see the page slightly better with goggles than the camera "sees" it with goggles, but I still had to be just inches away from it.
Una pagina de musica sin anteojos a la distancia para hacer lectura de primera vista y con anteojos a una distancia de algunas pulgadas. Creo que yo quizás pude ver la música un poquito mejor que la cámara la "ve," pero todavía tenia que estar a solo algunas pulgadas de la pagina.

The stairs with and without goggles. I went up and down them a couple times. I could see them, but I needed to be more careful.
La escalera con y sin los anteojos. La subi y baje algunas veces. La pude ver, pero necesitaba tener mas cuidado.



Picking out a book to read and reading. I could read regular print if I put it very close to my face. However, I couldn't read the print in some of my Bibles. The print was too small. Also, the printing in "red" was more difficult to read.
Escogiendo un libro y leyendolo. Pude leer la letra regular de un libro si lo miraba muy de cerca. Sin embargo, la letra de algunas Biblias mías no pude leer. Era demasiado pequeña. También, la letra rojo fue mas difícil para leer.



I could see my little TV comfortably at this distance. I imagine a big-screen TV would be even better. :-)
Pude ver bien mi pequeña televisión a esta distancia. Me imagino que una pantalla grande seria aun mejor. :-)

Unas lecciones aprendidas

1. Hay muchísimo que uno puede hacer si es ciego legal. A veces hay que ajustar como las cosas se hacen, o acercarse mas, o usar algun instrumento para magnificar. Y algunas veces quizás podría hacer algo si tiene la ayuda de otra persona también.

2. Aprecio aun mas a mi dulce caballero de novio. Me inspiras. :-) Tambien, el hecho que es "ciego legal" es solamente un aspecto de el. También es un músico talentoso, un estudiante diligente de la palabra de Dios, un hombre de Dios, un cristiano fiel, un grabador de vídeos, y un gran amigo.

3. Esta oportunidad me dio un poco mas de entendimiento de y compasión por los pacientes que veo en mi trabajo--algunos de los cuales son ciegos y muchos mas de los cuales tienen la vista baja.

4. Estoy agradecida a Dios por la vista que tengo.


Some lessons learned

1. There is LOT that a legally blind person can do. Sometimes maybe one would have to adjust the way one does something, or get closer to something, or use some type of magnification. And maybe sometimes one would be able to do something with another person's help.

2. I appreciate my sweet, godly knight even more. You inspire me. :-) Also, being "legally blind" is just one aspect of him. He is also a man of God, very talented musician, a diligent studier of God's word, a faithful Christian, a videographer, and a great friend.

3. This opportunity gave me a little more understanding of and compassion for the patients that I see at my job--some of whom are legally blind and many more of whom have low vision.

4. I am thankful for the vision that I do have.

Apple Jack Chicken/El pollo con manzana y queso

Esta noche les hice una comida a mis papas y a Toby en mi apartamento. Quiero y necesito la practica y mis papas están muy felices por animarme a hacerlo. :-) Escogi una receta que se llama "Apple Jack Chicken" y me encanto como salió. Son unas pechugas de pollo asadas al horno con manzanas y queso blanco. Creo que esta receta será una que usare varias veces! También hice bróculi, arroz integral, y una salsa. Salio bien el bróculi, pero el arroz quedo soso y no me gusto la salsa (Le eche manzanas.), pero esta bien. Ahora se lo que me gusta y como podría mejorar.

Tonight I made a meal for my parents and Toby in my apartment. I want (and need) the practice, and my parents are very happy to encourage me! :-) I chose a recipe called "Apple Jack Chicken" and loved how it turned out. It's made from chicken breasts baked in the oven with slices of apple and Monterey Jack cheese. I think this will be a recipe that I'll use many times! I also made broccoli, brown rice, and a gravy. The broccoli was good, but the rice was rather bland, and I didn't like the gravy. (I put apples in it. Kind of gross, I know...) That's okay though. Now I know what works and what I can improve.

Christmas with My Knight/La Navidad con mi caballero

Mi novio y yo tuvimos una cita (por telefono) a la medianoche para abrir nuestros regalos de Navidad. :-) Habiamos esperado toda una semana, y por fin llego el día, la hora, el momento de abrirlos. Que emoción! A las 11:59 recibí la llamada y rapidito y con alegría abrimos los regalos, describiendo con detalle mientras hablábamos por teléfono.

Me escribio una linda tarjeta con mucho amor, decorada por frente con copitos de nieve y por dentro con corazones que el dibujo. Me encantan también las pantallitas verdecitas que me envio. Van a combinar muy bien con la ropa navideña mañana, y no son de níquel así que no me van a picar las orejas. :-) Ademas, me envio una serie buenísima de algunos mensajes predicados por el pastor de su iglesia. Ya los había escuchado una vez por la Internet y me gustan mucho. Estoy feliz por tenerlos ahora en forma de CD.

My boyfriend and I had a date (by telephone) at midnight to open our Christmas presents. :-) We had been waiting a whole week, and finally the day, the hour, the moment had arrived to open them. How exciting! I received his call at 11:59, and we quickly and happily opened the gifts, describing with detail while we talked on the phone.

He wrote me a beautiful, loving card, which is decorated on the front with snowflakes and on the inside with hearts drawn by his hand. I also love the pale jade earrings that he sent. They are going to look so nice for Christmas tomorrow, and they are nickel-free so they're not going to irritate my ears. :-) Lastly, he sent me an excellent series of messages given by the pastor of his church. I have already listened to them online and like them a lot. It is nice to have them now in hard-copy form.

Christmastide with the Family/Las Navidades con la familia

Aquí están algunos momentos sobresalientes de las Navidades. Las pudimos pasar todos juntos como familia. Mi hermano T llegaron el martes, y A y K llegaron anoche. Fue la primera vez que T pudo ver a su sobrinito P.

También, esta es la primera Navidad de P, y le encanto abrir sus regalitos. Ya camina muy bien con su juguete para caminar.

Here are some highlights of Christmastide. This year we were able to spend it all together as a family. My brother T arrived on Tuesday, and A and K arrived last night. This was the first time that T saw his nephew P.

This is also P's first Christmas, and he loved opening his presents. He already walks very well with his stand-up walking toy.

t is also enjoying having all his siblings here. He and A decorated the tree, and t and T colored together at the table.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.../Decorando la casa para las navidades

El fin de semana pasado decidí a decorar mi apartamento para las navidades. Guinde unas luces blancas y algunos adornos en una pared y compre un pequeño árbol verdadero en un tiesto. Este árbol es mas pequeño aun que el "arbusto" que tuve el ano pasado, pero ya que compre un piano en abril, no me quedan rincones para colocar un árbol grande. Este arbolito sirve muy bien para decorar la mesa junto con algunos regalitos para familiares y algunos mios. (Y estoy muy orgullosa de Lily porque no se esta comiendo el arbol!)

Si toman nota...hay un sobre bastante grande al lado derecho del arbolito. Es un regalito de mi novio. :-) Tengo ganas de abrirlo, pero hay que esperar el día de Navidad. :-) (Yo le envie un regalo también, y lo recibió esta semana.)

Last weekend I decided to decorate my apartment for Christmas. I hung a string of white lights and some ornaments along one wall and bought a small live tree in a pot. This tree is even smaller than the "bush" I had last year, but since I bought a piano in April I don't have any corners to put a large tree. This little tree is just perfect to decorate the table along with some presents for family members and some presents of my own. (And I am very proud of Lily who is not eating the tree!)

If you take notice...there is a pretty big envelope to the right of the tree. It's a present from my sweet boyfriend. :-) I am looking forward to opening it but have to wait until Christmas. :-) (I sent him a gift too, and he received it this week.)

A New Adventure/Una Nueva Aventura

Estoy alabando al Senor por esta nueva aventura que me ha traído a la vida. Desde agosto 2011 me he estado comunicando con un hombre que conocí por medio de Christian Mingle. Es un hombre de Dios que ama mucho al Senor y quiere vivir para Su gloria. Es muy paciente y manso y tiene un amor por la palabra de Dios. Estoy muy agradecida por el y por lo que Dios esta haciendo en nuestras vidas. Ademas, este hombre es un músico muy talentoso y desea usar su talento para Dios. El domingo pasado hablo con mi papa y ya estamos en un noviazgo oficial. Gloria a Dios!

I am praising the Lord for this new adventure that He has brought into my life. Since August 2011, I have been communicating with a man that I met through Christian Mingle. He is a man of God who really loves the Lord and wants to live for His glory. He is very patient and gentle and has a love for the word of God. I am very thankful for him and for what God is doing in our lives. In addition, this man is a very talented musician who desires to use his talent for God. Last Sunday he spoke with my dad, and we are now in an official courtship relationship. Praise the Lord!

Mi sobrino P - 8 months/meses

Este fin de semana tuvimos una visita de esta linda familia. Llegaron el viernes y pasaron la noche en casa con nosotros. Me alegre mucho de ver a P y a mi hermana y mi cunado. Cada vez que veo a P ha crecido y aprendido mas. Es muy fuerte e inteligente. P ya sabe caminar y moverse agarrando el sofa. Ya prontito estara caminando!! A veces, si esta tratando de coger un juguete, suelta el sofa y se para solo por un momento, pero rapidito tiene que agarrar el sofa de nuevo o se pierde el equilibrio. Dios te bendiga, P, y a tus papas que buscan criarte para ser algun dia un hombre de Dios.

This weekend we had a visit from this lovely family. They came on Friday and spent the night at home with us. I was so happy to see P and his mommy and daddy. Each time I see P, he has grown and learned so much. He is very strong and smart. P already knows how to walk along the side of the sofa. Soon he will be walking alone!! Sometimes, if he is trying to reach a toy, he lets go of the sofa and stands alone for a moment, but quickly he has to hold on again or he loses his balance. The Lord bless you, P, and your mommy and daddy as they desire to raise you to be a man of God someday.

Thanksgiving 2011/Acción de gracias 2011

Este ano celebramos nuestro primer Accion de gracias con P. P esta empezando a probar otras comidas, asi que el tambien pudo disfrutar de un platito pequeno de comida. :-)

This year we celebrated our first Thanksgiving with P. P is beginning to try other foods, and so he too was able to enjoy a little bowl of the Thanksgiving meal. :-)
